Through their decision to boycott Spotify, I recently rediscovered King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard — and they’ve quickly reclaimed their place as my favorite band. I’m fascinated by their complex song structures, polymetric rhythms, and microtonal melodies.

If you want to dive deeper into what makes their music so unique, I highly recommend Pop Descriptivist’s YouTube channel, which features excellent videos analyzing songs like Crumbling Castle, Beginner’s Luck and Witchcraft, as well as the band’s microtonal works.

For my friend Julika’s 40th birthday, I created a mixtape of my favorite King Gizzard tracks — you can find it on PeerTube:

Psychedelic Picnic - Genredefier 5 - Dancing Lizards

PeerTube is a free and open-source, decentralized, ActivityPub federated video platform. It can use peer-to-peer technology to reduce load on individual servers when videos get popular. I support it in an efford to move a way from potenially unstable non-EU cloud sources.

Bonus Info: I also really love the folky King Gizzard covers by Maddie Ashman & Tolgahan Çoğulu
